Mr. Oliver Earle, Greenville’s Beloved Urban Gardener

Exclusive Photography: FishEye Studios, Greenville, SC

Meet Mr. Oliver Earle, a certified urban farmer in South Carolina. He is located on Sullivan Street at the West End of downtown Greenville. Depending on the season, he grows a variety of produce and plants that are for sale at the Easley Farmers Market or at his home garden.

His trusted guard Chihuahua warns intruders that his garden is not for the neighborhood. It’s his business. And he means business.

Seeds are getting harder to find and purchase. Fortunately there are seed exchanges such as Southern Exposure Seed Exchange or local friends, Park Seed Company in Greenwood.

Mr. Earle reminds us that after you harvest lettuce, wash in your refrigerator. Add a little water to the bottom of a cup, it’s better to store your lettuce upright and it will keep it fresh.

This is horsetail. Twist off a section to treat red ant bites. Mr. Earle says it’s even good for snakebites. I’m not too sure, so here’s a link to read more about it.
