Myles Pizza Pub

Exclusive Photography: FishEye Studios, Greenville, SC

Whole strips of salty bacon and giant slices of ham cooking under fistfuls of decadent mozzarella cheese come together in a thick pie with a crispy, crunchy crust. Cue the Bowling Green, Ohio legend Myles Pizza. A legend? Yep.

While we are in the middle of unprecedented times and avidly encourage you to maintain social distancing and #StayingOffTheGrid as much as possible, we still want to feature local businesses that we love and believe in. Even if you are unable to support them right now, we encourage you to add them to your list of places to visit post-COVID. We believe in supporting local and sharing the good stuff with all of you.

Myles Pizza is all about keeping it simple and fresh. Wholesome ingredients become “one” as in a marriage the likes of your grandparents’: the kind that is strong, simple, and solid. The flavor, texture, and temperature all work together to create the recipe for a PERFECT pizza.

Meredith Myles, with parents Chip and Bridget Myles, had enough of the cold winters of the North, and after 39 years of running the highly successful Bowling Green gem, they felt it was time to warm up in the South. When we say gem, we’re talking five-hour wait times on closing night that has to lead to the continuous flow of fans traveling to #yeahTHATgreenville to get their Myles “fix.”

Why’s it so good? There are three key factors: Ingredients, sauce, and baking.

Chip explains, “We use fresh ingredients and prep every day. The meat is not precooked which is extremely important to enhance the flavor (with the exception of bacon). We grind our own cheese and make our own dough and sauce.”

And let’s talk about the sauce. Owner, Chip “Dad” Myles, is the only one who holds the recipe to the magical red sauce. This dark beauty is full of seasoning and flavor leaving you questioning your addictive tendencies when you wake up craving it the next day.

Yep. Even the mozzarella is grated fresh on site.

“Birthday-worthy” generous toppings like the housemade sausage, full strips of bacon, and fresh veggies are weighted down by heaping amounts of part-skim mozzarella. (Vegan friends — Daiya is available by request)

The baking process is a challenge in the likes of a gladiator taming a 650-degree oven. Meredith explains that “…you have to work the ovens and know the hot spots, cold spots, and how to rotate the pizza.”

Meredith explains what makes Greenville special, “Greenville can be as big and as small as you want it to be.”

Why did they relocate to Greenville?

After scouting several southern cities that fit the family’s criteria (small business-friendly, a good place for the family, and good school system), they returned to Ohio, and in an 8-day period of time had 3 people tell them to visit Greenville, the last one being her aunt who said: “You and Wrigley HAVE to go to Greenville.”

Behold their garlic cheese bread, one of the classics from Ohio. OTG TIP: Try the tomato cheese bread.

Lucky us, we’ve scored a lifelong favorite that’s still serving a 10lb pizza called the 16in Food Lovers, a Mexico Lovers pizza with a ½ spiced ground beef, co-jack cheese, and basically a taco salad for garnish. Need to switch it up? Myles Pizza Pub is killing it with their loaf of garlic bread, hot subs, and massive salads.

We’re thrilled that the Myles family choose #yeahTHATgreenville as their new home.

Their future plans include front patio service with local musicians and a back “play” area with picnic benches and yard games.

Parents: For the front patio, children need to be supervised at all times due to the proximity to Pleasantburg Drive.
